Limitations

Nooxl Apps simulates Excel as closely as possible, but it is not Excel. Both products evolve, so these limitations can change.

note

If you find unsupported functionality not listed here, let Nooxl know so it can be added.

Unsupported Excel formulas

Nooxl Apps supports almost all Excel formulas up to Excel 2016. Unsupported formulas work neither in model logic nor in cell action output formulas. Known exceptions:

FormulaComment
FORMULATEXT()No workaround available.

Newer Excel 2019 and Microsoft 365 functions are generally not supported.

Conditional formatting

Only parts of Excel's conditional formatting are interpreted:

FormatFeatureSupported
NumberEverythingYes
FontFont style, size, colorYes
FontFont (family), underline, effectsNo
BorderStyleNo
BorderColorYes — but you must set a color for all four borders, or none is rendered
FillColorYes
FillPattern color, pattern styleNo

Excel tables

Excel tables (Insert → Table) are shown in Nooxl Apps as normal cells; their advanced features (sorting, filtering) do not work. Formulas that reference a table by its table/column name instead of cell addresses will error — use cell addresses.

Chart types

Not all Excel chart types render. In general:

  • Supported: most 2-D column, line, bar, area, scatter/XY, and bubble charts, plus several stock charts.
  • Partially supported: several "with markers" and 100%-stacked variants; radar charts render but axis labels are not shown (they export correctly).
  • Not supported: all 3-D charts, pie/doughnut, filled map, surface, treemap, sunburst, histogram/pareto, box & whiskers, waterfall, and funnel.

See Charts and pictures for tips on getting charts to display correctly.
